Exactly half (50%) of smartphone owners regularly use restaurant loyalty rewards app, according to a new survey by The Manifest, a B2B news an how-to site.
The Manifest surveyed 500+ smartphone owners across the U.S. to better understand trends when it comes to popular categories of mobile apps. The latest survey specifically focuses on food delivery and restaurant loyalty rewards app.
Ciklum’s head of mobile stack, Olexandr Leuschenko, provided industry insight to The Manifest, contextualizing the data.
The survey found that Starbucks has the most popular restaurant loyalty rewards app. Nearly half of respondents said they regularly use Starbucks’ app, compared to 34% who use the Domino’s app and 30% who use the Pizza Hut app.
The Starbucks app succeeds because it provides a comprehensive and engaging user experience. It taps into the trend of gamification, in which gamelike elements – such as awards and competition – are inserted into everyday experiences.
Olexandr Leuschenko, Ciklum’s Head of mobile stack :
“Gamification makes users return to the app […] Gamification revolves around social actions and receiving awards – badges, likes, leaderboards, and other things that give the user a special status. People like to be the best in something almost as much as they like to get a free product.”
The Starbucks app allows users to collect points, or “stars,” with each purchase they make. Once the user has accumulated enough points, they can redeem a free Starbucks product.
Overall, the Starbucks app’s gamification is communicated well and is effective.
