With nearly 3 million newborns dying every year in the first month of the life, 80% of deaths are preventable by monitoring baby’s heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The award-winning IoT device is a prototype of a baby hat with a novel sensor array to measure the vital signs and alert doctors and nurses on changes. The research and development work for the Neopenda device was done in Ukraine by the Ciklum R&D team. With the prototype system co-developed by the Ciklum R&D team, Neopenda has already raised over $600K in funding.
“We are thrilled that Neopenda and Ciklum’s work on the connected newborn monitoring system has been recognized by the Big Data Excellence Awards. We’re excited to be leveraging cutting edge IoT technology for an application where it will have enormous impact and help save newborn lives”, says Teresa Cauvel, CTO, Neopenda.
Neopenda fills this gap in care by giving a voice to newborns in danger in developing countries. As a technology partner, Ciklum helped Neopenda convert the idea into the device, which helps newborns survive.
“The most challenging task for us was to combine the research and development of algorithms with classical software and firmware development for embedded systems. Ciklum R&D Engineering team helps the clients create outstanding innovative projects, and we are proud to take part in this challenging project”, – Yevhenii Karpliuk, PhD, Senior Researcher at Ciklum
